Ocean rowing is one of the most extreme endurance challenges on the planet.
Imagine spending weeks—sometimes months—at sea in a small boat no
longer than 8 meters and barely 1.5 meters wide. You face relentless waves,
blistering sun, freezing nights, sea sickness, sleep deprivation, salt sores, and
sheer exhaustion. At times, it feels like you’ve been dropped into hell itself.
But when in hell… you keep rowing!
Despite the suffering, the rewards are beyond compare. There’s something
profoundly spiritual about being so far removed from civilization. The stars at
night are unlike anything you can see on land, with the Milky Way stretching
across the sky in vivid detail. You encounter wildlife in its rawest form and
build an unbreakable bond with your crew. And nothing compares to the
moment you finally spot land on the horizon—the feeling of accomplishment
as you step ashore, knowing you’ve done something truly extraordinary.
Our next challenge is the biggest yet: a world-first ocean row from mainland
Australia to mainland Africa—specifically Tanzania. A 4,500-nautical-mile
journey that no one has ever completed in a classic-style ocean rowing boat.
That means no motors, no sails—just the raw power of human effort and
teamwork propelling us across one of the planet’s most unforgiving bodies of
water.
To succeed in a crossing of this magnitude, preparation is everything. And one
of the most critical aspects is nutrition. When rowing in 2-hour shifts, 24 hours
a day, you need fuel—lots of it. Each rower will burn upwards of 8,000 calories
per day while only consuming around 5,000. Over the course of the
expedition, that means we’re each likely to lose as much as 28kg (around 4
stone). The food we bring isn’t just sustenance—it’s survival.
We’ll be relying heavily on rehydrated meals—lightweight, calorie-dense food
that just needs a splash of hot water and a bit of patience. These meals will
provide about 2,500 calories per day, leaving a massive deficit to be filled by
high-fat, high-protein snacks. That’s where Pascal’s Pork Scratchings come in.
Pascal’s Pork Scratchings are, quite frankly, a superfood disguised as a guilty
pleasure. Each 50g bag packs a punch with 17g of protein and plenty of
healthy fats—perfect for keeping energy levels up between rowing shifts.
They’re lightweight, compact, and above all, delicious. These little salty
powerhouses are exactly what our bodies crave when we’re deep into the red
zone.
We’re incredibly proud to be supported by Pascal’s on this world-first
expedition. Their backing isn’t just about snacks—it’s about fuelling adventure,
pushing human limits, and supporting dreams that, to many, seem impossible.
So as we take on this epic crossing, rowing from Australia to Tanzania across
the vast, wild Indian Ocean, we do it with grit, passion—and a stash of
Pascal’s Pork Scratchings to keep us going, one crunch at a time.
